Richard came home just in time to see that I was dropping off the keys to our apartment for the last time. He took a moment to look around the empty apartment quietly.
“You’re just in time,” I said.
“Indeed,” he agreed.
“Would you like to see the new house?”
“Are there trees?” he asked.
“Seven of them,” I answered. “Great grandfather trees. And a wonderful ravine a few blocks away, with a little creek and a waterfall. Great places to sit quietly and write. You’ll like it.”
Richard nodded his approval. I took his hand and together we closed the door on the two bedroom apartment forever.
